Why a Gospel of Life Campaign?

St. James tells us in his New Testament Letter, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” James 1:27

The Gospel of Life Appeal this year focuses our life efforts on a nationwide effort of the Bishops Conference called Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service. For us in the Diocese of Phoenix, this year of service will begin on March 25th the Feast of the Annunciation.

Bishop Olmsted asks all of our parishes to energetically prepare for and enter this important initiative, which with God’s help, will strengthen our outreach and assistance to this vulnerable group of moms. As we know only too well, many moms are at risk of falling prey to the abortion industry, or to the real discouragements that come and threaten each mother’s resolve to say yes to life. Our parishes are in the breach and closest to many moms in this situation.

Therefore from January 22nd – February 28th, the 2021 Gospel of Life Appeal will be divided such that 50% will go to your parish to fund this effort. The remaining 50% will fund the Diocesan efforts to share the Gospel of Life through the Arizona March and Rally for Life, media announcements, training of parish clergy, staff and volunteers, and other efforts for strengthening our pro-life apostolate network of Catholic organizations which offer such good practical service for moms. After February 28th, 100% of all funds will fund the Diocesan efforts.
